Middle School Attendance Information

Middle School Attendance Information

School attendance is required by law. Every student ages 6 through 18 years of age must attend school every day and be on time for the start of school. You are responsible for your child’s school attendance. You must let the school know if your child is not in school and give a specific reason for the absence. Absences due to activities such as baby sitting, accompanying parents on errands, and attending music or sporting events are unexcused.

Absences must be cleared within two weeks of the occurrence to be considered an excused absence. Please refer to the Attendance and Enrollment section on page 11 of the Information Handbook for Parents, Guardians, Students, and Advisory Committees for details.

Facts Related to Non Attendance

  • Students are absent more on Mondays and Fridays.
  •  Students stay home more often during inclement weather, and the day after a school holiday.
  • Students who do not eat breakfast are absent more than students who do.
  • Student’s older siblings frequently set attendance patterns in a family.
  • Students who ride the bus to school are absent more frequently than students that walk.
  • Positive school attendance promotes educational achievement.
  • Students who attend school every day are less at risk of dropping out and becoming involved in delinquent behavior, early pregnancy, or substance abuse.
